Since March 2024 , the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza virus has been detected in U.S. dairy cattle , spreading across multiple dairy operations. This emerging situation highlights the urgent need for effective surveillance systems to monitor and control outbreaks in dairy farms. 🔬 A recent multi-state study examined 25 H5N1-affected dairies across California, Colorado, Michigan, and Ohio to determine whether environmental sampling could help detect Influenza A virus (IAV) contamination.
